Week 15, 17 Dec. Reflection.
Taking video is really a tough task!
After this whole semester, I would like to salute every video production crew
and their production. Now I understood why some movies took
years to complete. Before start of shooting, there are a lot of stuff to be done.
For the final assignment, I grouped with Balqis and Aina and we are doing
Balqis's story. After a short discussion, Balqis is the director because she
wrote this story and she's the one who most understand what this story about. Then, Aina is the editor and I will be the cameraman.
Since Balqis found her music box is not the couple statue but ballerina statue so we have to find another to replace it. The music box that we found on web is way too expensive and apparently we can't afford. Then Balqis went to KLCC and look for it. She bought one but that one is too different style with the story so we didn't use that. In the end, our decision is DIY the doll ourselves and
I'm the in charged of making the couple dolls of the music box. It took time to make the doll because the clay that I used is too soft and need time to dry. I planned to do more detail on the dolls actually but it's really too soft. It deformed every time because I accidentally hold too tight. Anyway, I made it although it doesn't looked like what I expected. Felt so sorry to group mates.
And then, I made a big mistake. Felt bad to everyone again, I'm sorry guys. I went 7-11 before we starting to shoot. First time I went, I ask one of the shopkeeper first but he said he couldn't decide so I ask the cashier. The cashier told me he couldn't give me permission also so then he asked another worker who just came in the shop. I asked him, HE SAID CAN. He even asked me what device that we going to use. I answered him DSLR and he said ok again. That's why I thought he's the manager. On the day before we shooting, I went there again to inform the same person our shooting time and he said ok again. But then, we forced to cancel our shooting in the 7-11. I never expected that would happen. Lesson learnt. Never just ask, write a letter. Black and white is the proof. So sorry sir for wasting your time, sorry sir!
I have not too many problems on camera and I really learnt a lot.Before this I never used a DSLR before, so I don't really know what is ISO and the difference between using the different sizes of lens. To be honest, I have zero interest about video production before this semester. I watch videos, dramas and movies but I never interested in how they made it. But now, I changed. I started recognizing the shot type and the shooting angle when i'm watching videos.
I'm getting interest in video shooting. I hope I can make a good video in one day. I will try!

Week 15, 14 Dec. Video Production First assignment - storyboard.
It is a story of a high school girl, Jojo.
Jojo and Mandy are seatmate and also best friend. Jojo has hearing problem so that she cannot hear people clearly. Since their seats are in the last row and are at the corner of the classroom, Jojo’s hearing problem becomes more serious. All she heard is like people mumbling. Therefore, she can’t follow up what her teachers teaching so she asks Mandy to repeat and explain very frequently. Mandy is quite a patient person, she repeats for her everytime and never get annoyed or mad. Although she repeats for her everytime but it does not mean she permits her to continue her whole life in this way. As Jojo’s best friend, she always asks her to visit the doctor randomly. However, Jojo uses different excuses to refuse her advices and tell her she’s fine and healthy.
After few weeks/months, Mandy gets annoyed. She asks Jojo to visit doctor more frequently than before but Jojo still refuses her advices as usual. Then, Mandy starts ignoring her, she stay silent when Jojo asks her questions. Jojo feels down and sad.
One day recess time, she goes to meet her another friend for counselling. When they are talking, they heard somebody quarrelling. It is the couple of her friend’s class quarreling. Their voices spread over the whole class and turns louder gradually.
At the same time, Jojo’s face turns pale and she stop talking. Her friend worries and asks her is she okay or not. She answers her that she is fine but then she leaves the classroom after answering her question. She enters to the toilet. Her head starts aching. The quarrel sound of the couple keep floating in her head. She uses her hands to cover her ears tightly but the sound becomes clearer and clearer. But the voices changed. It’s
not the voices of the couple anymore, it’s the voices of the people that Jojo used to know. Her parents’ voices.
A flashback appears in her brain. The time throwbacks to her primary school time. Once when her parents quarreling, she tried to stop them because they were fighting. Her father attacked her mother and her dad accidentally slapped her face hardly when she tried to stop them. Since that day, Jojo cannot hear clearly. This is the scar that Jojo never wanted to reveal. She feels like if she tell this to someone else, everything will change. She doesn’t want to make anyone worry about her or hurt anyone.
After staying in the toilet for couples minutes, she realized all Mandy did is for her health. She helps her a lot and treat her really nice. Therefore, Jojo is going to tell Mandy that everything happened to her because she doesn’t want to lose this true friend. Jojo gets out from the toilet and go back to her class. She tells her everything that happened to her. After that, Mandy hugged Jojo tightly and telling her everything is fine.
In the end, Mandy brought Jojo to visit the Ear-Nose-Throat Clinic.

Week 15, 3D Final assignment.
For our final assignment, we need to create
a scene or character which has the story to tell.
Since the first and second I have already made robot and animal,
so I decided to make a human this time.
Week 15, Sketches.
I love drawing. I enjoys designing character.
This is the reason I like 3D modelling.
It's so excited and satisfying when my 2D drawing
turned into a 3D model.

we moved to public seating area and do character design.

Below are my ideas for soft surface model.
Week 15, 3D texturing and UV mapping.
Sometimes we need to do UV mapping
for make a good texturing on the model.
I was almost cried when I first tried to do UV mapping.
A good UV map must not have overlap on it.
I tried my best but I still failed.
It's hard to unfold the model nicely.
By the way, painting without using Wacom is a pain.
I keep doing undo and paint the same thing when I'm painting for the texture.
Anyway, I tried my best to paint it nicely by using mouse.
Week 15. 3D modeling Exercises.
Mouse modelling
It's the first 3D model that I did. Since the hotkey is so different
with Adobe software. It costed me a lot of times to do it although it's
actually a simple model.
Nervermind! No pain no gain.
Hand modelling
For the second assignment, we are doing the soft surface model
so we have a hand modelling practice.
I thought this will be quite hard but actually no.
All the fingers are same, the different between then is
the size, length and position only.
Head modelling
After trying make the hand model,
we learnt head modelling. In my opinion, this is the
hardest part in doing the soft surface model.
It is start from a 1x1 polygon plane!

Week 11, 14 Nov. Assignment 1 - Ears.
It is a story of a high school

classroom, Jojo’s hearing problem becomes more serious. All she heard is like

person, she repeats for her everytime and never get annoyed or mad. Although

Jojo is a very attractive and
friendly person. She is that kind of girl have a lot of friends, no matter boy
or girl. One day during the recess time, she is chatting with a group of
friends. Her friends tease when she misheard something. However, the atmosphere
is joyous and happily. Suddenly, some not so loud noises comes from outside the
classroom. The noises is very low in volume, even some of her friend still don’t
know what is happening outside the classroom. They shocked when Jojo tells them
it’s the couple quarreling. The noise becomes louder gradually then they only
realized Jojo is true. Suddenly, the couple enter the classroom. Their volume
is louder than just now.
They stopped for a while to figure
out what happening but then they continue their conversation because there is
none of their business and they can’t help anything. At the same time, Jojo’s
face turns pale and she stop talking. After a few minutes, the couple still
quarreling. Jojo suddenly stood up from her chair and tell them she is going to
toilet then she leave the classroom. She enters the toilet and sits on the
toilet bowl. Her head starting aching. The quarrel sound of the couple keep floating
in her head. She uses her hands to cover her ears tightly but the sound becomes
clearer and clearer. But the voices changed. It’s not the voices of the couple
anymore, it’s the voices of the people that Jojo used to know. Her parents’
voices.
A flashback appears in her brain. The
time throwbacks to her primary school time. The time when her parents argue
every day. The young Jojo covered her ears hardly every time when her parents
quarreling but she still can hear that. So then she gave up covering her ears
and she tried to ignore every sounds.
Ignoring the sound from surroundings
gradually became her habit. Once she realized her bad habit, everything is too
late. She can’t focus on hearing anymore but only sensitive to the sound when
people quarrelling furiously.

"It seemed a
very long time to her to wait till her husband returned. The old man at last
came back as the sun was setting, with a big bundle of grass on his back—so big
that he was almost hidden and she could hardly see him. He seemed very tired
and used the scythe for a walking stick, leaning on it as he walked along.
As soon as
the old woman saw him she called out:
“O Fii San! (old man) I have been
waiting for you to come home for such a long time to-day!”
“What is the matter? Why are you so
impatient? Has anything happened while I have been away?”
“Oh, no! Nothing has happened, only
I have found a nice present for you!”
“That is good,” said the old man. He then washed his feet
in a basin of water and stepped up to the veranda.
The old
woman now ran into the little room and brought out from the cupboard the big
peach. It felt even heavier than before. She held it up to him, saying:
“Just look at this! Did you ever see
such a large peach in all your life?”
When the
old man looked at the peach he was greatly astonished and said:
“This is indeed the largest peach I
have ever seen! Wherever did you buy it?”
“I did not buy it,” answered the old woman. “I found it in the river where I was washing.” And she told him the whole story.
“I am very glad that you have found
it. Let us eat it now, for I am hungry,” said the O Fii San.
He brought
out the kitchen knife, and, placing the peach on a board, was about to cut it
when, wonderful to tell, the peach split in two of itself and a clear voice said:
“Wait a bit, old man!” and out stepped a beautiful little child.
The old man
and his wife were both so astonished at what they saw that they fell to the
ground. The child spoke again:
“Don’t be afraid. I am no demon or
fairy. I will tell you the truth. Heaven has had compassion on you. Every day
and every night you have lamented that you had no child. Your cry has been
heard and I am sent to be the son of your old age!”
On hearing this the old man and his wife were
very happy. They had cried night and day for sorrow at having no child to help
them in their lonely old age, and now that their prayer was answered they were
so lost with joy that they did not know where to put their hands or their feet.
First the old man took the child up in his arms, and then the old woman did the
same; and they named him MOMOTARO, OR SON OF A PEACH."

Week 9, 30 Oct. Sketches for Organic Modelling.
I sketched a lot of characters in my sketchbook
but I picked this for assignment 2 in the end.
The Fox Kiddo!
(NOT that creepy fox on the left upper side!)
He is a cute fox boy with a fluffy tail.
Because I wanted to make him looks cute and small,
that's why he wearing an oversize sweater and short pant.
Mr Kannan said, adding some personality into the characters
would make them lively. Therefore, I have my another sketch.
(I know this looked so different with the previous one but
I tried my best to make it looks similar already.)

Week 7, 11 Oct. Ambient sound.
My group (group 1) has finished recording for the sound effects last week
so what I do today is record the ambient sound.
